[VID+MP3] The Builders and the Butchers | Lullaby + Rotten To The Core + More

The Builders and the Butchers -Lullaby
The Builders and the Butchers - Rotten to the Core

Builders and butchers are quite the opposite careers, and for having such a dark and abstruse name The Builders and the Butchers have a great sound that is catchy and memorable. The have a grimy folk sound that is not only wholesome but also filling. They released their 4th album, Dead Reckoning, 2/22/2011 and its a roller coaster ride of slow and fast, turns and loops, that will get you back in line after the first ride. (Think This) I listened to Dead Reckoning for the first time last week and I couldn't get enough of it, I'm on spin 6 right now. You have to check out "Lullaby" and "Rotten to the Core," two of the highlights off their just released album, but check out some of their earlier stuff to get a feel for their progression and overall sound. They have a few free mp3s on their website, which you can find below. Don't forget about the video for "Lullaby," it's killer.

[MP3] Alcoholic Faith Mission | Running With Insanity

Alcoholic Faith Mission - Running With Insanity

Danish band Alcoholic Faith Mission is a great transition into a Springtime mentality. Both the male and female singers are fluent and refined a refreshing change from the over-polished sound that takes the cake these days. Harmonicas, horns, and hand claps create a unique and full sound with the use of minimal guitars. There is a Freelance Whales vibe going on here, with its eclectic indie sound, but a more wholesome and less candy coated overall product. Their Running With Insanity EP came out 2/21/2011 and is the first bloom of the season.

[MP3] TV On The Radio | Will Do

TV On The Radio - Will Do [Webrip from 107.7 The End Seattle]

After 2008's Dear Science [arguably a top 10 album of the 2000s and the reason I am into music so much today] TV On The Radio is back with the first single off their upcoming album Nine Types of Light. The album will be out 4/12 and if "Will Do" is any indication, it will be a total eargasm.

[VID+MP3] G. Love | Fixin' To Die [Produced by The Avett Brothers]

G. Love - Fixin' To Die

Let's go ahead and put it out there, the Avett Brothers can do no wrong. The Avett Brothers have taken to producing and G. Love's latest release, Fixin' To Die, is the first album they have put their name behind. Not only did they put the final touches on the album, they played instruments on the album alongside Garret Dutton [G. Love's real name] as a part of the band on each song. I don't know too much G. Love but I do know him as the pot-smoking, Jack Johnson affiliated, country-rap dude. The Avett Brothers might have tamed the artist and really harnessed his talent. Fixin' To Die came out yesterday, 2/22/11, and it's sure to be a sound, bluesy, fun album, and yet another marvel for Avett Brothers fans. Check out the video, which features the Avett Brothers, who are said to play a good amount of the instrumentation on the album, and download the mp3. Enjoy it and go cop it from Amazon

Odd Future is Changing the Rap Game | OFWGKTA on Jimmy Fallon 2/16

[NSFW][NSFW]WATCH THIS VIDEO BEFORE YOU READ[NSFW][NSFW]

With the help of Jimmy Fallon last night, the rap-punks from L.A. are now in the limelight, a place they have been shunned from for quite some time. Rap blogs, such as 2DopeBoyz and NahRight haven't been posting anything from the Odd Future Collective, even though they are change the face of rap as we know it. The no-hold, in-your-face style of Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All is weird, scary, everything that society is afraid of and that is why the group is able to do so well. If the "Yonkers" video above isn't enough proof, check out their website.
I am disappointed that Tyler, The Creator is turning to XL to release his next album, instead of sticking with his collective. He is getting a major label deal while the rest of his peeps are left in the cold. It is a one-disc deal and he said it was for family, which is re-assuring that there wont be a Weezy collab or some shitty mainstream artist to create some hype. These guys are their own hype, they have come from nothing to the next thing in the last year all by doing things their way and handling their own website, doing releases and booking shows; they need no help.
The indie/hipster blog world is all about these fools and it is awesome to see an influx of hip-hop (and dope ness nonetheless) to be popping up on blogs I frequent (GvB, Weekly Tape Deck, DCtoBC, Tumblin' Herb) as well as big news outlets such as P4K and Stereogum. Now they have really gone and gotten themselves in the eye of the public with this bizarre and unholy performance on Fallon. I think it is awesome that they can be so unapproachable on the internet but then they are collaborating with THE ROOTS and making having a great time being themselves. I am also overjoyed that Fallon knew he was about to have one of the craziest late night performances ever and embraced it and looked like he had a great time with the guys.

Check out a write I did about the collective at DTH Diversions Blog [it has links to all the free mixtapes the group has put out in 2010].

Tyler, The Creator's new album Goblin will be release via XL in April. [Just in time for me to get my hands on some vinyl after my bday] Grab the first single "Yonkers" [see video above] on iTunes now. The album art for the single is over there on the left.

[MP3] Delta Rae | "Deliver" & Start gRAEt Mondays

___________________________________________________________________________________

Gotta hop on the track-a-week train this time. Delta Rae, a local Durham band has introduced GRAET Mondays (yes, it's tuesday, but what the hell) and they are going to release 12 songs (basically an album). This is the best idea since G.O.O.D. Fridays. Forget Snoop Tuesdays or w/e they are called and all those other jokers with theirI haven't heard anything about this band before, but I am really digging their sound and this very novel idea. This is a soft little folk band with valiant sound, listen to the stream and download the song below. Look for these posts in the future. Saw this over at Sunset In The Rearview.
