[VID] CuDi plays Letterman w/ Roots, St. Vincent, & Cage

Here is a live performance of one of the more bizarre songs off Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager. The final product features the likes of indie goddess St. Vincent and underground whitey/oldie Cage. As most artist usually want to include the in-house band, The Roots, into their routine, CuDi does the same but quite minimally. Please don't tell me that CuDi is going all Weezy on us by whipping out the guitar, I wonder if it is even plugged in, I don't recognize it. I hope he plans a tour in the near future, I'd like to catch him live at some point.

Wake Up Scott Mescudi

Yo Mr. Cudi,
Having listened to your stuff for close to two years now, I can safely say that you don't give fuck about what I am going to say, b/c this is just another blog, but you're transforming into a lame beast. Case and Point: "Erase Me." This song is not hip/hop, it's not rock, it's maybe a Weezy-inspired fusion of the two. It's not what I have come to expect from arguably one of my favorite rappers. When I go back through your catalog and dig up songs like "T.G.I.F." and "Switchin' Lanes", songs that sparked our relationship, then listen to/watch this, I have to say you've changed up your game for the worst. Now I know evolution is a natural occurrence that affects 99% of musicians, but I believe you've overstepped your boundaries. I haven't been too impressed with most of the leaks ("Mojo So Dope," "Did You Get It" and "Manic") from Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager, though I don't know the set tracklist I have a feeling a good majority of those songs will be included. Please, don't get me wrong I'm digging what you're doing with G.O.O.D. Music and their Friday releases, that stuff is dope, as well as the leaks "Mr. Rager" "Wylin' Cause I'm Young," and "Dangerous." And I plan on buying The Legend of Mr. Rager, on vinyl hopefully if that is an option, because I know that once it's together it will make since (I have faith) or it'll be a reality check for you. I know you've been having some personal addiction problems but you're the indie-sampling and emotive lyricist that got me off Lil Wayne's nuts (for which I am eternally grateful) and  searching out for real hip-hop. I have mad respect Scott, but I think you're taking your 808s and Heartbreak tangent too early in your career.

Endearing Fan On The Moon,
Joe

(Please Don't Erase Me, lets make this a REVOFEV towards you're next masterpiece, not just All Talk)

[VIDEO] Kid Cudi | "Sountrack to My Life"

This is a like the video for "cudderisback," is there an underground documentary on Cudder? hat would probably be the most awesome thing ever. KANYE makes an appearance and an awesome black and white effect is used in the 2nd third of the video which is new and eye-catching. I should really try and catch him @ Dook on the 1st.

Kid Cudi | "Know Why"

|:| DO YOU KNOW WHY KID CUDI IS THE BEST?  |:|

I am addicted to Kid Cudi. He is my favorite rapper and he is different from everything out there. He doesn't rap about 8u115h!+, like other rappers. He asks philosophical questions and searches for the answer in his songs. He lets us into his life, emotionally and physically and stuns us with astounding lyricism. Here is another classic Kid Cudi song that sounds like it could be off Man On the Moon, not strictly straight rapping like his pre-MOTM mixtapes.

Kid Cudi | "High's N Lows"

download

"High's N Lows" ia recently released Kid Cudi song that was recorded 3 years ago when he was an up and coming rapper in Cleveland. He has come pretty far since then, but this song shows the perils of an unknown musician. He was really in a tough spot when he wrote this. Probably an excellent reason that he samples Bob Dylan's "Lay Lady Lay." The deep insight on his life that he includes in every track of his is a main reason that his lyrics are so appealing and some of the greatest out there. He gives us a taste of what it is like to be him emotionally, not physically (like other rappers who talk about 'trappin' and their 'dough'). I have been following Cudi for about a year and a half now and everything he does is emotionally drowning and simultaneously musically brilliant.

Most Important Albums of the Year 10-6

10.
Japandroids
Post-Nothing

Hopefully these boys won’t be leaving town anytime soon, because this feels like the beginning of something very special. This debut album exceeded my expectations when I heard the first single “Young Hearts Spark Fire” a while back. They have a very Wavves feeling about them, the lo-fi recording, it isn’t as lo-fi as Wavves, so I guess mid-fi. From the first guitar riff and beat of the drum on “Young Hearts Spark Fire” you know this album has to be good. Then there is their ode to French kissing French girls, classic.
Key Tracks: “Young Hearts Spark Fire” and “Wet Hair”

.09
Kid Cudi
Man On The Moon: The End Of Day

There isn’t enough I could say about this rapper. He is a lyrical poet who raps on only the best beats out there. This album is not the best that he has put out by any means but it is still a work of art. A Kid Named Cudi and Dat Kid From Clevland are full of songs with samples including Band of Horses, LCD Soundsystem, and Outkast, which you can listen to and download for free by clicking on the links. Teaming up with Ratatat on two tracks and MGMT on another is off-beat from other rappers today, going alternative and not gangsta. He tells the story of his introverted childhood and marijuana-smoking days of yore on Man On the Moon:The End of Day. He could have done without sampling “Poker Face,” but other than that this cooled-down, on the rocks album is a grand accomplishment for this
up-and-coming rapper
whiz kid.

Key Tracks: “Pursuit of Happiness (feat. Ratatat and MGMT)” and “Soundtrack 2 My Life”

.08
Phoenix
Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix

This is the best product France has spat out since the beret. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was one of the greatest composers of all time and fitting is the name of this album. Having composed one of the best songs of the year, “1901,” this album deserves a top 10 spot. The English of this Frenchie is outstanding. The use of synthesizers synthesizes a set of ten great songs. Besides the fact that at some points “Lasso” and “Listzomania”sound similar, the album is great.
Key Tracks: “Listzomania” and “1901”

.07
Harlem Shakes
Technicolor Health

This debut album is phenomenal. This strong performance is unmatched this year in versatility and quality in a debut album. The singer sounds much like Lonnie Walker’s which sounds much like Bob Dylan and through deduction you understand what I’m getting at. With lyrics that speak to me and a cowbell (pretty sure it’s a cowbell) on "Unhurried Hearts" this album is my prescription to a great album this year. This album was on repeat in my iTunes all Spring and is worthy of the 6th spot on this list.
Key Tracks: “Sunlight,” “TFO,” “Strictly Game,” and “Niagara Falls.”

06.
Animal Collective
Merriweather Post Pavilion

There isn’t much that hasn’t been said about it. It is a new side of Animal Collective that is pure brilliance. The illusion on the cover isn’t just some random thing they decided to put there to be indie, it is the lead in to the album, a trippy, magic carpet ride of eclectic tribal sounds, boisterous synthesizers, and the lyrics of a true classic. Oh Yeah, I forgot, they also released the best LP of the year, Fall Be Kind. That is all I have to say about them.
