Erol Alkan remixes MGMT's "Congratulations"

This is no Justice Remix of "Electric Feel" but it does go along with MGMT's whole idea of progressivism in their sound. It's weird, it's different, and it works. Erol Alkan takes a bland song and spices it up with some guitar chords and electronic blips. Take a gander and see what you think. This will be the B-side of a "Congratulations" 7" coming out Nov. 23.

[VIDEO] Scratching Off Congratulations

Got my copy of Congratulations today and made a video of me scratching off the cover. It's a pretty cool idea but I'd rather have there been a panda doing a unicorn with a large rainbow, something that would have been crazy and unexpected, not a black and white semi-not-so-trippy picture of the band members. Still fun though. I would like to thank Cameron Brown for recording the video, not only does she do pictures, videos too! I threw it all together in Adobe Premiere Elements.

Congratulations Streaming on MGMT site

|:|A leaked album is best heard legally|:|

Listen to MGMT's new album Congratulations on their website, streaming. Since it leaked they have decided to stream it so you can hear it legally. DON'T expect any hooks like "Kids" or "Electric Feel" but a more mellowed out bliss that will take until the album's release to learn to love.

[COVER] Jónsi | "Time to Pretend [MGMT]"

|:|Jónsi strips down renown pop group's first single from 2008|:|

Earlier today on BBC Radio Jónsi played a number of songs including this cover of MGMT's "Time To Pretend." He turned this uppity, catchy pop song into a dark, piano heavy, lofty version which emphasizes the song's lyrics beautifully. This song's transition into an emotional ballad is beautifully done by the Sigur Rós frontman whose album Go is coming out 4/5.

Here is the whole set he recorded:

MGMT is sorry for the quality of....

|:|Their latest single "Flash Delirium"|:|

The psychedelic rockers are maybe regretting releasing "Flash Delirium" as the first single off Congratulations because of it's widely divergent sound from 2008's Oracular Spectacular. In a statement released earlier this week by Ben Goldwasser said, “Andrew [Andrew VanWyngarden] just reminded me of that - that we thought it was the funniest thing we’d ever heard. And then we got used to it, it started to sound more normal. It’s not a single, but we thought it was a good way to entice people to listen to the whole record. I’m sure there are plenty of people who think it’s completely weird and not what they were expecting. I’m sorry.” I mean, it is a good idea, release an okay single that people are skeptical about to get them to check out the entire album. They have an ear for music, so they surely aren't going to make a disappointing album, it's just that people may need time to embrace the new direction.

Because of this "flopped" single "Flash Delirium," congratulations will begin streaming on NPR until the release date in an attempt to return folks to their cult-like support of the band. I'll be sure to get the stream up here early on Tuesday. I'm thoroughly excited to hear the whole album, see how different the bands infectious sound has evolved.

[CURRENT] New MGMT | "Flash Delirium"

|:| First Single From Congratulations |:|

Oh man, MGMT has been the pinnacle of alternative, psychedelic rock since their debut album Oracular Spectacular released in 2008. Here is a new tune off their April 9th Sophomore album Congratulations that is streaming live @ Spinner exactly 1 month before the release. If you haven't heard, the album cover is SCRATCH OFF. Yes, I don't know if that has ever been done before, who knows? I hope the revealing album art is as crazy as the cover. Hope this hype isn't too much.... But their last product [Pursuit of Happiness w/ Ratatat & KiD CuDi] was quite impressive.
It sounds pretty good, if I do say myself. I don't want to get ahead of myself making any premature judgments about the album but the song builds into a raging Pink Floyd tinged, exotic sound that caresses the ears. "Flash Delirium" lassos you into a trancing, head bobbing, foot stomping jig using flutes, shouting choruses, and flashes of raving, thumping techno buzzes. Don't be surprised if you hit the play button more than once.

[CURRENT] MGMT | Congratulations

|:| Can Oracular Spectacular be topped? We'll See|:|

MGMT has announced their sophomore album, Congratulations. The album will be released on April 13th through Columbia Records. According to the details: "Congratulations is a collection of nine individual musical tours de force sequenced to flow with sonic and thematic coherence. Soulful and complex, Congratulations is a surprising and delightful quantum step forward in MGMT's ongoing pop revolution."
  1. It's Working
  2. Song for Dan Treacy
  3. Someone's Missing
  4. Flash Delirium
  5. I Found a Whistle
  6. Siberian Breaks
  7. Brian Eno
  8. Lady Dada's Nightmare
  9. Congratulations

I  do hope that Lady Dada pokes fun at and is a reference to the mainstream freak Lady Gaga, but that could be wishful thinking. The album art looks pretty crazy. I am digging it. Maybe Tom and Jerry infused with a little Ren and Stimpy? The album is sure to be a hit. I'll keep you updated on any singles they release as I find.
