LONNIE WALKER stop by DAYTROTTER

One of [if not] my favorite North Carolina products happened to stop by Daytrotter and play a few songs today [well they were released today, I can't say they recorded them today]. They dropped a new song "Teenage Poem," which is so sick. A kickin' bass line and classic LW guitar breakdowns really give this song an awesome sound, one that sounds like nothing else they've done before, but it's still the same Lonnie Walker which is great. I'm excited to hear some new material. And big ups to them for some major recognition from Daytrotter, this is a sure sign that they are on their way to doing great things.

Langhorne Slim Stops By Daytrotter

Langhorne Slim, besides a cool name, has a great voice and has consistently produced good albums with a catchy sound for a good number of years now. He sounds like a long-lost Avett Brother who hasn't updated his sound like the Brothers have. He keeps it simple with a banjo and guitar being the meat of his music and semi-cheesy yet telling lyrics to cap it all off. This is what a Daytrotter session should sound like.

Freddie Gibbs Stops By Daytrotter

Daytrotter usually records some of the upcoming, sometimes established, indie talent whenever they sit down with artist. I haven't been following Daytrotter since it's inception, but I'm sure this isn't their first featured rapper. I have been impressed with this rapper since I first heard his song "Crushin' Feelings," it's too bad he didn't record that one. But this live rapping is very interesting, a feat which is not usually showcased, except during live shows.

Daytrotter has pulled some good acts this week. Today the wrangled Freelance Whales into the studio for an intimate little session. The band that combines nifty drumming, stingy banjo playing, and catchy pop lyricism sat down for a rather fun jam session.

|:| Durham Band Sits Down For A Mega Session  |:|

This North Carolina band busted out on the scene last year with the release of their highly touted LP Gather, Form, Fly. To great press and the tunes to back up the hype, the band has been extensively touring the country. They are now working on an EP with an unreleased date. A follow-up to their 2009 album should be quite an impressive release. They are running a blog commemorating this EP experience and more. Check out daytrotter, download the tunes here. 

Beach House on Daytrotter + [VIDEO] for "Norway"

This couldn't have come out at a better time. Looks like they are making the rounds promoting Teen Dream which is almost a week old. After playing a late night stint on Jimmy Fallon, a rare 1-day-only viewing of 5 videos they made for the album on Gorilla vs. Bear, and now Daytrotter there shouldn't much else on their to-do list for promoting the new album, maybe a stop playing live for Pitchfork or an AOL Session. The 4 song set they played live on Daytrotter sounds just like the produced tracks on the album. It is quite amazing that they are able to xerox the sound off Teen Dream to their live sets. They played some of the better songs off the album which is a major plus. Download here from Daytrotter.

Port O'Brien on Daytrotter

The San Francisco band stopped by Daytrotter for a nice little session which was posted today. They played:
"In the Meantime,"
"Calm Me Down,"
"My Will is Good,"
 and "Love Me Through."

It is a very nice set with a more chill set list with songs that have meaningful lyrics set to rather plain music and they still sound brilliant. The Songs are downloadable on the Daytrotter website if you create an account. They have  appeared on Daytrotter two other times back in 2008. In April of '08 they really bring the heat on "I Woke Up Today," you can hear pots and pans and all kinds of sounds.
