School of Seven Bells | "Babelonia"

"Babelonia" is the first single off School of Seven Bells upcoming 7/13 album Disconnect From Desire. That's the album art above. If you were ordering a "Babelonia" at Coldstone you'd pay for the 'Like It' price and get the 'Gotta Have It' size. This exceeds anything they have released so far. I had their first single ever "Half Asleep" on repeat all of the end of '08 It was one of those songs that got your feet and head vibin' to the beat before it even kicked in. Then the chorus just had a brilliant combination of supple vocals and kicking guitar.
"Babelonia" kicks in with dark guitar chords and tribal-tinged shrills and leads into the beautiful vocals they are known for. Distortion and guitar solos follow throughout. The chorus just seems to be lacking a 5 Hour Energy to separate it from the rest of the song, one thing this song could have benefited from. But this is a solid first single from the band. A less chilltastic but harder rocking sound than anything on Alpinisms. I'd say that the song tempts my 'desires' to hear the rest of the album but that would counter the album's proverbial title.
