|:| Leaving something to be desired on new album |:|
Broken Social Scene has an interesting sound for a "supergroup." This new tune is a great lead in to and taste of the upcoming album, Forgiveness Rock Record, due out May 4th. (May 4th is shaping up to be indie-gone-to-heaven day isn't it? Broken Social Scene, The Hold Steady, and The New Pornographers are all releasing albums on the date)
The lulling opening begs for a worthy opener to the new song. Man do they come through on that order. A unique finger-cramping guitar riff blows your socks off at the beginning. It's hard to fathom how hands could craft a sound so beautiful. The vocals are soft and lacking a certain Broken Social Scene quality. Usually they're engaging but not overbearing. These are just plain out quiet compared to a "7/4 Shoreline." Vocals have been a solid foundation for the band in the past, hopefully that foundation isn't crumbling.
