[YTE ORIGINAL MIXTAPE] Spark: An Exam Inspiration

Here is a mixtape to fuel your studying. It circles around a folk theme, with a little bit of southern influences and a overall quiet tone will definitely fuel the flame. The Cave Singers will swoon you, Lissie will mezmorize you, Mumford & Sons will break you, and the Futurebirds will inspire you. It will go great with a cup of coffee and a good book. I don't know much about any of the bands on this compilation but its has a ton of original X-MAS songs as well as some classic covers. Here is my latest mixtape. It is a double-sided vinyl, if you will compiled with songs released over the past month or so. The A-Side Southbound & Profound is alternative and indie-pop stuff that I have been spinning a lot lately. It ranges from the chorus laden electro beats of Matt & Kim to the impeccable skills of the John Legend and The Roots. The B-Side features some of the best Hip Hop of late. The "Hot Spitta" Curren$y, a flawless song from Kanye West and John Legend, and the always killer Kid Cudi. Enjoy.

Bradford Cox Releases 3 Mixtapes This Week [GIVE THANKS FOR FREE TUNES!]

Bradford Cox, mastermind behind Atlas Sound and lead singer of Deerhunter, has released three mixtapes of songs that he has recorded over the last year. He has posted a mixtape a day on his blog since Monday. Some of the songs are recorded on his computer, other are recorded at his house. I'll have to say there are some great songs and some droning ones. The sound quality varies, as do the lengths of the songs. These are a must have though. Why, you ask? They're free. Their a good listen while relaxing from the turkey-induced coma and clicking off the Macys Thanksgiving Day Parade. The leaves are falling and so is the music and Cox is definitely reminding us that we need to be thankful for his musical talents this time of the year. Here is a mixtape that features samples used in each of the songs on Kanye's latest album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy that dropped. I think this is an impressive feat compiled by Fake Shore Drive. There are pages that come out with albums that give all this information, but it's pretty cool that he got mp3s for each sample. Cole, THE N.C. rapper, dropped his latest mixtape Friday Night Lights today and it is the best mixtape out this year. I might have said that earlier this year, but I retract that label now. J. Cole has the rap game in the palm of his game  [Kanye has it in a sleeper hold] and he's taking every opportunity he gets to let his light shine. He has been releasing a lot of these songs for the last few months on a rolling basis, now we have them all in one spot with a lot of added gems. I can't wait for Cole World, his debut album, to come out, probably close to the beginning of 2011. He has a song with Drake, Wale [Wal-gay]. the latest G.O.O.D. Friday song "Looking For Trouble, and a number of good woman singers [I don't know if it is anyone specific]. J. Cole is Hova's latest prodigy and I couldn't think of a better rapper to follow in his light. He is good phenomenal.

The National - Fake Empire [Ryan Lewis BONUS]

One of the more popular songs in The National's catalog gets a remix by Ryan Lewis, who made a name for himself working with the West Coast rapper Macklemore. This cut is from the Vs. [REDUX] where they remixed their entire EP they released in 2009. Not only does a remix of The National seem unorthodox, it seems downright impossible considering the multitude of layers they meld their music with. Lewis keeps the songs diginity intact with an emphasis on the strings that compose the song, breaking them down and stretching them out for an ear-pleasing, aesthetic remix that will make you want press replay, then listen to the original.

[YTE MIXTAPE] Glenn Beck Swag

     I decided that I need to make a mixtape that is straight thug. What comes to your mind when you think of thug? Denzel in American Gangster? Well for me, it so happens to be Glenn Beck, the Tea Partyin, Palin-bootycallin', white haired man-among-boys, Fox News political correspondent. He doesn't have pretty boy swag, but his swag is turned on. He'd agree that in all his prudishness that the next song about swag should be about him and just like that, he gets a mixtape. These are a few tunes that this Real OG might play in his stretch-hummer limo on the way Jon Stewart's Rally to Restore Sanity, to get him pumped up to have some great counter arguments and say something controversial. I give you Glenn Beck Swag.

     Well I just thought that would be a fun name for a mixtape. I'm not a big fan of the guy but he's put himself out there and in doing so, I'll name a mixtape after him. This one is strictly Hip-Hop based. From Kanye to K.R.I.T. to Khalifa, this rap-tastic collection of songs is sure to give any sub a run for it's money. Hopefully you haven't heard all of these rappers before and you're getting a fresh slice of this RAPple Pie. So sag those jeans/khakis/sweatpants and put on that old Charlotte Hornets jersey stashed in the attic because Glenn Beck Swag is just that OG.

Das Racist has followed up their March Mixtape Shut Up, Dude with Sit Down, Man, released yesterday to the interwebs. The dudes have teamed up with the likes of Diplo and Boi-1da as well as indie pop band Chairlift among others on this project. They reference pop-culture all the time and poke fun at the color of their skin. It's overall pretty enjoyable. They switch up the flow on every track and like to make you think deep about whether they are kidding or not.
