[MP3] The Cave Singers | New Album & Single

I haven't really listened to the Cave Singers before, considering they have two rather highly touted albums already out, but after hearing this single I am excited for No Witch, out 2/22/11. There is a sense of pure folk music derived from raw talent in "Swim Club." The song has beautiful lyrics and a soft tone that seems refined but so natural at the same time. It is already up there with The Decemberists and Drive-By Truckers in my list of 2011 releases. Well enjoy this single while I go catch up on their other albums.

[MP3z] Burnt Ones

I came across this low-fi Rock'n'Roll the other day and wanted to share. The catch here is that it's more of a Southern-infused lo-fi rather than a Wavves-like punk-indie infused static production.

[VID] School of Seven Bells | I L U

Here is the video for "I L U," a song off School of Seven Bells second album Disconnect From Desire that came out earlier this year. I always forget about the album when I'm thinking about my top albums of the year, a major problem because every time I start listening to the album I'll end up making it all the way through. It is a solid album with some great songs. I high recommend that you check it out.

Bradford Cox Releases 3 Mixtapes This Week [GIVE THANKS FOR FREE TUNES!]

Bradford Cox, mastermind behind Atlas Sound and lead singer of Deerhunter, has released three mixtapes of songs that he has recorded over the last year. He has posted a mixtape a day on his blog since Monday. Some of the songs are recorded on his computer, other are recorded at his house. I'll have to say there are some great songs and some droning ones. The sound quality varies, as do the lengths of the songs. These are a must have though. Why, you ask? They're free. Their a good listen while relaxing from the turkey-induced coma and clicking off the Macys Thanksgiving Day Parade. The leaves are falling and so is the music and Cox is definitely reminding us that we need to be thankful for his musical talents this time of the year. Click on the album covers to download or visit his blog to see the tracklists as well as download.

[VID] Mac Miller | Knock Knock

I've always thought this song was really catchy and fun, but had a hint of wack. The video doesn't help me solve this problem. But have dug this up-and-coming rapper this fall. He recently signed with Rostrum Records [Wiz Khalifa] and put out a legit mixtape K.I.D.S. late this Summer.

Here is an awesome song from Young The Giant's self-titled album released earlier this year.

B.o.B. back to RAPPING on "Beast Mode" [VID]

Damn, B.o.B. is making a statement with this haterade anthem. With a #1 album he is allowed to rap about his 'beastness' but it is out of the blue. I started listening to him before The Adventures of Bobby Ray came out earlier this year and that Airplanes shit hit the fan. He was rapping like this consistently back in the day, hopefully there will be more like this on his No Genre mixtape coming out on Dec. 7th. I'm pretty excited to see where his next move is going to be after making a hit record. Does he give away a bunch of good free music and sell semi-shitty stuff or sell semi-shitty stuff and give semi-shitty stuff away for free. Let's wait 17 days and see.

Here is a mixtape that features samples used in each of the songs on Kanye's latest album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy that dropped. [UPDATES] Live Blogging | Year-End List[s] | I WANT YOUR HELP

I have seen this new "Live Blogging" trend in the music blog world. I believe it is traditionally done when a leak has just surfaced, as a first take on the usually high-profile release. We talked about it in the journalistic medium in class today, that's where the idea sprang. Basically I haven't seen anything recently that I would be interested in live-blogging. I have 15 pages of essays to write before Thanksgiving break, so needless to say I'll save live-blogging for turkey-induced ears. Leave some obscure, recently released, upcoming, classic album that you'd like to hear me review and I'll work on making it happen.

Well I have seen a few year-end album and song lists pop up on blogs already, I guess its time to get around to that again. It's going to be quite hard this year, there has been a lot of good stuff. Well I know there are a few of you out there that have listened to/purchased a lot music over the past 330ish days and I would love to here your take on your top 10 or 15 albums &/or songs of 2010. No need to write anything about them. Just send me a list of your top 10 albums. Be it Miley Cyrus or Kanye West as your #1, your list will be posted if you submit it.

SHORT LIST:
Submit albums you would like me to live-blog or your top albums/songs of the year to be posted.

Thanks,
Joe

DOWNLOAD NOW: [MIXTAPE] J. Cole | Friday Night Lights

Yo, if you do anything productive with your Friday night, download this mixtape NOW. J. Cole, THE N.C. rapper, dropped his latest mixtape Friday Night Lights today and it is the best mixtape out this year. I might have said that earlier this year, but I retract that label now. J. Cole has the rap game in the palm of his game  [Kanye has it in a sleeper hold] and he's taking every opportunity he gets to let his light shine. He has been releasing a lot of these songs for the last few months on a rolling basis, now we have them all in one spot with a lot of added gems. I can't wait for Cole World, his debut album, to come out, probably close to the beginning of 2011. He has a song with Drake, Wale [Wal-gay]. the latest G.O.O.D. Friday song "Looking For Trouble, and a number of good woman singers [I don't know if it is anyone specific]. J. Cole is Hova's latest prodigy and I couldn't think of a better rapper to follow in his light. He is good phenomenal.

[VID] Patterson Hood | The Thanksgiving Filter

Here's a video of Patterson Hood performing "The Thanksgiving Filter" at an acoustic session somewhere at some point, there isn't any information about the video. Hood is the usual lead singer of The Drive-By Truckers, he splits time with Mike Cooley and sometimes Shonna Tucker.

"The Thanksgiving Filter" is going to be on a Black Friday limited 10" release along with "Used to be a Cop." And presumably the song will be added onto their upcoming album, Go-Go Boots, out Feburary 15, 2011.

This is going to be a DBT classic, the strong emotional appeal and is about the deep seated familial problems that arise around the end of November. I can't wait to hear a full version of the song.

Go-Go Boots

Here's the cover to the upcoming Drive-By Truckers album, Go-Go Boots, due out February 15th, 2011.

[MP3] The National | Fake Empire [Ryan Lewis BONUS]

One of the more popular songs in The National's catalog gets a remix by Ryan Lewis, who made a name for himself working with the West Coast rapper Macklemore. This cut is from the Vs. [REDUX] where they remixed their entire EP they released in 2009. Not only does a remix of The National seem unorthodox, it seems downright impossible considering the multitude of layers they meld their music with. Lewis keeps the songs diginity intact with an emphasis on the strings that compose the song, breaking them down and stretching them out for an ear-pleasing, aesthetic remix that will make you want press replay, then listen to the original.

Download the extremely dope Vs. [REDUX] here.

[VID] CuDi plays Letterman w/ Roots, St. Vincent, & Cage

Here is a live performance of one of the more bizarre songs off Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager. The final product features the likes of indie goddess St. Vincent and underground whitey/oldie Cage. As most artist usually want to include the in-house band, The Roots, into their routine, CuDi does the same but quite minimally. Please don't tell me that CuDi is going all Weezy on us by whipping out the guitar, I wonder if it is even plugged in, I don't recognize it. I hope he plans a tour in the near future, I'd like to catch him live at some point.

[MP3] The Decemberists | "Down By The Water"

Well, I mentioned it the other day, here's the first single from The Decemberists new album, The King Is Dead, out 1/11/11. [They couldn't wait another 10 months?]
