The Drums + Video + mp3 = Brit Pop Paradise

This video is new to me, I saw it over at Pop Tarts yesterday. It's catchy and draws me in every time I played it. This is a rather different tone than "Let's Go Surfing," one that shows a depth to The Drums sound and back the hype the album will soon begin to receive. It's out June 15th. Pre-order it on iTunes or Amazon.

The Drums Debut On The Way

The Drums seeks the light of day

Last year The Drums captured my affection with their hit song "Let's Go Surfing." Their garage/surf sound teleports you straight to that final bell on the last day of school and dazed summer days spent on the beach. Of course there is the always compared to, Morrissey, a Brit-pop feel that they bring to their music. These guys recently released a single "Best Friend," a less than stellar follow up to their 2009 EP Summertime. Fortunately they have announced their debut LP. The self titled album is slated for a July 7th release. I wish bands would stop copping out and using their name as their first album's title, it's boring. This is possibly the album art. It's what I found over at Play.com where you can pre-order the disc.

BBC: Sound of 2010

The British Broadcasting Channel has released it's Sound of 2010. Basically a list of artists to watch in the coming year. It looks like a pretty good cast of completely unknowns to me as well as some up and coming stars. The bands on this list are must watch because if you read BBC's Sound of 2009, they hit the nail on the head with just about every artist. The list includes:
  • Daisy Dares You
  • Delphic
  • Devlin
  • The Drums
  • Everything Everything
  • Giggs
  • Gold Panda
  • Elie Goulding
  • Hurts
  • Joy Orbison
  • Marina and the Diamonds
  • Owl City
  • Rox
  • Stornoway
  • Two Door Cinema Club
I'll have to go ahead and knock off Owl City, they're pop, already mainstream, and sound like the Jonas Brothers. No Good. I have already posted on The Drums before, they are an afro-indie high energy band with a Smith-like sound, sure to impress in 2010. Everything Everything (pictured right) seems like a  pretty promising band, very eclectic and interesting. I'm excited to follow these artists and see what comes of them in the next 359 days.

Aw Shucks! (Superb Tunes I Missed Out On In 2009)

Trying to find new music is not the easiest thing when it comes to being in college. It's like trying to sleep in Las Vegas. (There's too much to do and so little time to do everything you planned) Winter break has been a nice change of pace. I have had ample time to search the internet and find new music. With just about every blog doing a list of top albums or songs I have discovered some pretty good stuff that would have certainly made it on my list of Most Important Albums or Top Songs.

Local Natives - Gorilla Manor

Cymbals Eat Guitars - Why There are Mountains

Sunset Rubdown - Dragonslayer

Wild Beasts - Two Dancers

The Drums - Summertime EP

Neon Indian - Psychic Chasms

The Drums

The newest band from NYC to make its round on the blog world. They sound like a revived Smiths. They remind me of Vampire Weekend. The way Vampire Weekend had a unique college rock sound that seemed to be an instant classic. Seems pretty promising right? RIGHT. The Drums released their Summertime EP in October. The first single was "Lets Go Surfing." Here's a free download of it. Follow the link then there's a large download button. There are a few links to free downloads of remixes to the song, I didn't check those out.
