Kid Cudi | "High's N Lows"

"High's N Lows" ia recently released Kid Cudi song that was recorded 3 years ago when he was an up and coming rapper in Cleveland. He has come pretty far since then, but this song shows the perils of an unknown musician. He was really in a tough spot when he wrote this. Probably an excellent reason that he samples Bob Dylan's "Lay Lady Lay." The deep insight on his life that he includes in every track of his is a main reason that his lyrics are so appealing and some of the greatest out there. He gives us a taste of what it is like to be him emotionally, not physically (like other rappers who talk about 'trappin' and their 'dough'). I have been following Cudi for about a year and a half now and everything he does is emotionally drowning and simultaneously musically brilliant.

New Material from The Decemberists &/or Colin Meloy

Here is a YouTube video that looks pretty interesting. If you have even been to a Decemberists concert you will know that Colin Meloy likes to rant and ramble on, hear himself talk, for a better part of the show. I'm not complaining because he is pretty funny. Looks like he has really let himself go, no more flippy-odd-bang thing going on in the front and a full beard. This new tune sounds more like stuff off Picaresque or Her Majesty. It is a nice throwback tune, compared to the epic stories and more harder alternative sound than The Crane Wife or The Hazards of Love. (Not contradicting their latest releases) But this could easily be him prepping for a solo album, seeing as it is just him playing, while a better of the part is working on their side project Black Prairie. But it has that signature catchy sound that the Decemberists became famous for. We'll just have to see what this leads to!

Gil Scott-Heron

This is some very interesting stuff right here. If you were to take 3 cups of Tom Waits, 1 cup of Ray Charles, and dashes of both Johnny Cash and Hip-Hop you will get Gil Scott-Heron. This is something that wouldn't normally be found on my iPod but it is pretty interesting, thought that everyone needs to be open to all types of music and this is nothing that will be a quick like after two songs. The "On Coming From a Broken Home" two part song tells a great story. He could make a great motivational speaker despite the deepness of his voice clearly from smoking. The album, I'm New Here, is coming out on Feb. 9th. Found this on Pitchfork.

This is an interesting video for this awesome some. I love how they have the claps and whatnot in sync with the music. Looks like the Happy Hands Club from Napoleon Dynamite is back in action in this impressive video.

Beach House on Daytrotter + [VIDEO] for "Norway"

This couldn't have come out at a better time. Looks like they are making the rounds promoting Teen Dream which is almost a week old. After playing a late night stint on Jimmy Fallon, a rare 1-day-only viewing of 5 videos they made for the album on Gorilla vs. Bear, and now Daytrotter there shouldn't much else on their to-do list for promoting the new album, maybe a stop playing live for Pitchfork or an AOL Session. The 4 song set they played live on Daytrotter sounds just like the produced tracks on the album. It is quite amazing that they are able to xerox the sound off Teen Dream to their live sets. They played some of the better songs off the album which is a major plus. Download here from Daytrotter.
